Community Links & Area Attractions

Lebanon Valley, in the south central area of the
Commonwealth, 25 miles east of the capitol in Harrisburg,
offers convenient access to all major mid-Atlantic urban
and cultural centers through an extensive highway network.
With a strong industrial heritage dating back to Colonial
times, the communities of the Lebanon Valley support a
highly diversified group of manufacturers, transportation
companies, financial institutions, and wholesale, retail and
service businesses of all varieties.
Lebanon Valley is also blessed with excellent hospitals
and clinics, including the Hershey Medical Center, one
of America's leading research and treatment facilities.
The region's educational system includes quality primary
and secondary schools, and a public "Vo-Tech" school, as
well as excellent undergraduate and graduate studies at
both Lebanon Valley College and the Lebanon campus of
Harrisburg Area Community College.
Beautiful pastoral landscapes and well-kept farmlands
abound in this northern extension of Pennsylvania Dutch
Country, and the Valley’s superior quality of life is enhanced
by a broad range of cultural and recreational activities, both
indoors and out.
Schuylkill County is located directly to the north
of Lebanon County in east central Pennsylvania. The first
European settlers were German farmers, who arrived in
the mid-1700's. The discovery of coal in the 1800’s led to
a development boom, and the multi-ethnic immigration that
followed created a classic "Melting Pot" society.
While still known as “The Coal Region,” large portions of
the county contain some of the most attractive agricultural
and forested areas of eastern Pennsylvania. Rural valleys
hold small scattered villages in scenic, natural settings
while “coal” communities are densely developed.
Following the mining decline after World War II, Schuylkill
County has worked to rebuild its economic base and
increase employment, aided by the presence of Interstate
81 which provides easy access to all major destinations.
Recent success stories, large and small, from high
technology to massive distribution centers, have fostered
a new spirit of optimism and success, enhancing the
county’s quality of life.
A wealth of heritage and cultural groups preserve Schuylkill
County’s unique and rich history, and the region’s natural
beauty and affordable, slower-paced lifestyle are enjoyed
by residents and visitors alike.
